A Day at the Bay
1 April 2020
On 1 April 2022, we will be visiting the Tomaree Library and Community Centre at Salamander Bay. We will meet at the Library at 10am and visit the library and the Tomaree Family History Society which meets there on a Friday. After a look at the library’s local studies area and a chat with our fellow family history buffs, we will head up to the look out, to view the area.
A visit to the Information Centre and either morning tea or an early lunch. We can buy fresh seafood from the local Seafood Cooperative or call into the shopping centre at Shoal Bay and buy lunch and meet up at the now closed Shoal Bay residential complex. A walk around to the headlands and set up for a picnic lunch in the grounds. We might need to bring some picnic rugs.
There are relics of WWII gun emplacements and for the hardy a walk up to view the old radar station and the view of Shoal Bay and surrounds. When we are ready, we can head back to Newcastle.
